Connecting to Source

"The major problems in the world are the result of the difference between how nature works and the way people think." ~ Gregory Bateson

I always feel better when I am outside, connected to nature and the elements: earth, water, air, the grass, the trees, the birds and animals, the sun and moon. We live on a remarkably beautiful planet, which has wisdom born through countless millennia. What if we could learn this wisdom? What would it tell us; how would it guide us?

Earlier this year, in a small forest outside Santiago, Chile, I was walking through a beautiful glade of tall trees. They were huge, majestic, towering above me into the clear sky above. I approached them, humbly, knowing they had been around a lot longer than me, and would remain long after my departure. After a while, I gently, with some trepidation, placed my hand on their bark. It was as though I was placing my hand upon a sleeping child with reverence, comfort, connection. I felt myself sink into the earth, a pulse came through my body as though I was breathing with the tree. I looked up into the branches and sky, tears spontaneously running down my cheeks.

It wasn’t clear what these tree, this place, was teaching me. It seemed beyond intellect, but I knew I was connecting into the grace of patience, presence, kindness, shelter, giving and receiving, breathing, being, leaving, coming home, oneness.

May we each connect to the wisdom and grace that surround us, offering us shelter and guidance through the storms, vicissitudes, and joys of life.

Love and Peace and Light.

Always,

Greg
